His real name is Sherrone Banfield Moore. He was born on 3 February 1986 in Derby, Kansas, United States. He finished high school at Derby High in 2004.

After that, he played junior college football for two years at Butler Community College, then moved to the University of Oklahoma in 2006.

While playing for the Sooners, he took part in 14 games as an offensive guard. He completed his bachelor’s degree in communications from Oklahoma in 2008.

Career Details

He started at Louisville in 2009 as a graduate assistant under coach Steve Kragthorpe and stayed in the job when Charlie Strong took over. In 2012, he became a full-time assistant and coached the tight ends through the 2013 season.

In February 2014, he became the tight ends coach at Central Michigan under Dan Enos, and the next year, he stayed on when John Bonamego became head coach.

In 2017, he was promoted to assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator while still coaching the tight ends. On January 15, 2018, he joined the University of Michigan as the tight ends coach.

After three seasons in that role, he was promoted on January 25, 2021, becoming the co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.

Under his leadership, Michigan’s offensive line won the Joe Moore Award in 2021 and 2022 for being the best in the country.

At the start of the 2023 season, Michigan suspended Moore for one game and head coach Jim Harbaugh for three games because of earlier recruiting issues.

After the regular season, he was chosen as a finalist for the 2023 Broyles Award, which honors the best assistant coach in college football.

On January 26, 2024, he became Michigan’s 21st head coach after Jim Harbaugh left for the Los Angeles Chargers. He signed a five-year deal worth $27.5 million and became the first African American head coach in the school’s history.

On May 5, 2025, it was reported that Michigan planned to suspend Moore for the third and fourth games of the 2025 season while the sign-stealing investigation was still ongoing.

On December 10, 2025, the University of Michigan announced that Moore had been fired after they found trustworthy evidence that he had an improper relationship with a staff member.
