Shai Gilgeous-Alexander began his college basketball career in the 2017–18 season, coming off the bench behind freshman point guard Quade Green, but he still managed to play over 30 minutes a game.

He quickly made an impact, and after a loss to UCLA, he bounced back with a strong performance, scoring 24 points along with 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals against Louisville in December.
