Career Details

He was picked seventh overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2018 NHL Draft and spent his first seven seasons with the team. He later led the squad as captain from 2023 to 2025.

Even before being drafted, he was seen as a highly talented player. From his very first season, he stood out as an attack-minded defenseman and was nominated for the league’s top rookie award in 2020.

After doing well with the USA Hockey development program, he played for the University of Michigan in the 2017–18 season.

He set a new school record for assists by a first-year defenseman and earned spots on the Big Ten Freshman Team and the Big Ten Second Team.

On the international stage, he played for Team USA at the World Junior Championships in 2018 and 2019. He has set multiple team and league records as a defenseman, and in 2024, he won the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s top defenseman.

On December 12, 2025, he was moved to the Minnesota Wild in a major trade. In return, his former team received Marco Rossi, Zeev Buium, Liam Öhgren, and a first-round selection in the 2026 NHL Draft.
