Early Life, Education & Career
He was born on 8 February 1984 in Hammond, Louisiana, United States. He is 41 years old as of 2025. He played as a safety for Delta State from 2002 to 2005 and started all four years.
He made 285 tackles in his college career, which is the third-highest in the school’s history, and he grabbed nine interceptions, ranking fourth.
In his final year in 2005, he made 81 tackles, including five for a loss, plus two interceptions and two forced fumbles. He started coaching in 2006 as a graduate assistant under former Delta State coach Rick Rhoades.
That year, the team finished 12–3 and reached the NCAA Division II Semifinals, where they lost to Grand Valley State, the team that went on to win the title.
He spent two years at Tusculum College as the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach under Frankie DeBusk.
In 2007, the team set a school record with 14 interceptions. In 2008, they led the conference in sacks and forced turnovers, earning a spot in the NCAA Division II playoffs.
In his second year, the Golden Eagles improved by six wins. Southern Miss finished the season 9–5, took the West Division title in Conference USA with a 7–1 record, and played in the 2015 Heart of Dallas Bowl.
In his first year with the Roadrunners, he helped the team get six wins and reach their first bowl game, the 2016 New Mexico Bowl. In 2017, his defense became one of the best in the country, ranking seventh and allowing only 287.8 yards per game.
On December 15, 2017, Alabama head coach Nick Saban announced that Pete Golding was joining the Crimson Tide staff as a defensive assistant for the 2018 season.
On January 13, 2023, Ole Miss announced Pete Golding as their new defensive coordinator. Later, on November 30, 2025, he was promoted to head coach after Lane Kiffin left for LSU.
