Guided by his family’s influence, Adler started working in theatre as a stage manager in 1950. In 1974, he stepped into directing with the Sammy Cahn revue Words and Music, followed by the play Checking Out in 1976.
His first acting appearance came much later, in 1991, with the TV series Brooklyn Bridge.
He appeared in several TV roles, including Mr. Wicker in Mad About You, Sam Stewart in Raising Dad, Lt. Al Teischler in Hudson Street, and Howard Lyman in both The Good Wife and The Good Fight.
Between 2017 and 2019, he played Moshe Pfefferman, the father of Jeffrey Tambor’s character, in the Amazon series Transparent.
