Career Details

After completing his residency, Dr. Emir went to Germany for a fellowship to further specialize in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery. During his time there, he gained advanced knowledge and hands-on experience in modern procedures like bypass surgery, aneurysm repair, and endovascular techniques. In the late 1980s, Dr. Solaković returned to Sarajevo and joined the vascular surgery clinic at KCUS.

He quickly gained respect for his expert surgical skills and kind, caring approach with patients. When the conflict in Bosnia began in 1992, Dr. Solaković chose to stay in Sarajevo despite the risks.

During the next three years, he carried out over 5,000 critical surgeries in extremely difficult conditions, sometimes working by candlelight due to power outages and often with very limited medical supplies.

In 2004, Dr. Emir became the Head of the Vascular Surgery Clinic at KCUS. He brought in advanced, minimally invasive procedures that helped patients recover faster and spend less time in the hospital.

Throughout his career, he wrote around 200 research papers focused on vascular surgery and heart care.

In 2009, the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina honored him with the Povelja with Golden Lily award for his efforts in sports medicine. In 2018, Dr. Solaković opened the Special Hospital “Dr. Solaković” in Sarajevo.

Along with treating patients, he also worked as a full professor at the University of Sarajevo’s Medical Faculty. There, he taught subjects like vascular anatomy, surgical techniques, and how to make smart medical decisions.

Dr. Emir often appeared on popular TV programs like N1 BiH’s “Pressing” and Hayat TV’s “Anatomy of Life,” where he shared helpful, science-based advice on healthy eating, managing stress, and healing after illness, including COVID-19.
