He was found unconscious around 6 a.m. on Monday at the Siam Touch Massage parlour, located on the well-known tourist island of Koh Samui.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Phumaret Inkong from Bo Phut Police Station said that when officers reached the massage parlour near Chaweng Beach, they found Mr. Saines already dead.
He had just finished his massage, got dressed, and went to the bathroom. After that, he asked if he could sit on the bed to rest for a bit, and then he just peacefully fell asleep, the officer said.
The masseuse said he was snoring loudly, so they even asked nearby guests if they wanted to switch rooms. When the shop closed around 3 a.m., she let him keep sleeping.
At 6 a.m., she tried to wake him but got no response. She called a friend for help, and that’s when they realized he had passed away, likely sometime after 4 a.m.
Mr. Saines was staying with his family at Villa Mia, a luxury hotel costing $4,000 a night. Police believe he left around midnight and paid 400 baht (about $19 AUD) for a one-hour oil massage.
