After his parents separated when he was 12, he moved back to the UK and joined Kings Langley Secondary School during Year Seven.

He was very good at football and athletics, and he set a new school record in Year Nine by running the 100-metre race in 11.6 seconds.

Career Details

He started boxing late, in 2007 at the age of 18, after his cousin suggested it. He trained at Finchley ABC in North London, the same club as professional heavyweight Derek Chisora. Joshua won the Haringey Box Cup in 2009 and 2010.

In October 2011, he was named Amateur Boxer of the Year by the Boxing Writers Club of Great Britain. He competed in the 2012 London Olympics as a newcomer internationally, even though he had already won a world silver medal.

He was honored with an MBE in 2013 and later received an OBE in 2018 for his services to boxing. On 11 July 2013, he officially became a professional boxer with Matchroom Sport.

He had his first pro fight on 5 October 2013 at the O2 Arena in London. He held the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles from 2015 to 2016.

In 2017, he win over Wladimir Klitschko was awarded Fight of the Year by both The Ring and the Boxing Writers Association of America.
