In 1957, after two years in the army, he started working at La Rinascente in Milan as a window dresser and later in the men’s clothing section. In the late 1960s, he met Sergio Galeotti, an architectural draftsman.
By 1973, Galeotti encouraged him to open a design office in Milan at 37 Corso Venezia. On 24 July 1975, Armani and his friend Galeotti started Giorgio Armani S.p.A. in Milan.
That same year, he launched his first men’s collection for Spring/Summer 1976. In 1978, he signed a deal with GFT, allowing his luxury designs to be produced on a larger scale while still keeping his personal touch and quality.
In the early 1980s, He partnered with L’Oréal to launch perfumes and cosmetics under Armani Beauty.
Around the same time, he introduced Armani Junior, Armani Jeans, and Emporio Armani, followed in 1982 by Emporio underwear, swimwear, and accessories.
